The 2026 Buganda Masaza Cup is back — and if Matchday One is anything to go by, this season is going to be ruthless. Defending champions Buweekula were held. Early favourites showed their teeth. And across all three groups, the picture is already interesting. Here is everything that happened in Matchday 1, and every fixture you need to know for Matchday 2.

Matchday 1 Results: The Full Picture

The 2026 season opened on Saturday 13 June with the most anticipated clash of the opening round — Buweekula hosting Kyaddondo at NTC Stadium in Mubende, in front of a crowd that included the Katikiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga. What followed was a tense, tactical 0-0 draw that felt far bigger than the scoreline suggests. Kyaddondo arrived having failed to beat Buweekula in their last five meetings. They left with a point, a clean sheet, and a Man of the Match performance from captain Trevor Kalule that had people talking. Goalkeeper Bwabye Ashiraf was outstanding in the second half as Buweekula pushed hard for a winner. Coach Bright Nyanzi's side held firm. For Buweekula, coach Ibrahim Kyobe had a warning for the rest of the group: several key players were still finishing club duties and had not yet reported to camp.

We came prepared not to concede. Playing the defending champion at his home ground is never easy. The boys were immense. We build from here. — Coach Bright Nyanzi, Kyaddondo

The rest of Matchday 1 played out across June 20 and 21, completing all nine group-stage openers. In the Bulange Group, Buddu beat Buluuli 2-1 at Kitovu Sports Arena, while Busujju edged Buvuma 1-0 at Kakindu Stadium to sit joint-top alongside Buddu. In the Masengere Group, Kyaggwe made the most decisive statement — winning 1-0 away at Mawokota at Ssaza Stadium Buwama to go top of the group. Busiro and Gomba shared a 0-0 draw at Trinity College Stadium, while Ssese and Bulemeezi played out a 1-1 draw at Lutoboka Playground. In the Muganzirwazza Group, Ssingo beat Kabula 2-1 at Ssaza Grounds Mityana, Butambala defeated Mawogola 1-0 at Kibibi SS Stadium, and Bugerere and Kooki drew 1-1 at Ssaza Grounds Ntenjeru.

Group Standings After Matchday 1

In the Bulange Group, Buddu and Busujju lead with 3 points each, Buweekula and Kyaddondo sit on 1 point apiece from their draw, while Buluuli and Buvuma are yet to open their accounts. In the Masengere Group, Kyaggwe top with 3 points, four sides — Bulemeezi, Ssese, Busiro and Gomba — share 1 point each, with Mawokota bottom on zero. The Match To Watch: Kyaddondo vs Buddu

All nine fixtures matter, but the standout clash of Matchday 2 is Kyaddondo hosting Buddu at Santana Playground in Wampeewo. Kyaddondo are building momentum after their disciplined draw against the champions. Buddu arrive as one of only two sides with a Matchday 1 win, and they will not give Kyaddondo anything easily. A win for Kyaddondo puts them right back in contention in a tightly grouped Bulange. A win for Buddu and they set the pace. This one will be worth following.

The Bulange Group has four teams separated by two points after one game. The next three matchdays will define who is really here to compete.
